88th Night Shincha

  • 1700

Tasting Notes: fresh spring greens, steamed edamame, spring pea, soft umami, smooth finish

Description:  88th Night Shincha is a once-a-year green tea treasure. The word Shincha means “new tea” in Japanese and refers to the very first harvest of the year. It’s crafted from the earliest tea leaves of the season, plucked on the 88th night after the start of spring in Japan, a date known as Hachijū Hachiya. This harvest, which typically falls around May 2nd, marks the beginning of Japan’s tea season. According to tradition, tea picked on this night is said to bring good health and long life.

The result of harvesting on the 88th Night is the freshest sencha green tea you can drink. A sencha that’s vivid, tender, and full of spring vitality. Our 88th Night Shincha is a deep-steamed fukamushi sencha grown in the high-elevation gardens of Shizuoka, Japan, near Mt. Fuji. It brews a soft, smooth cup with notes of fresh greens, spring peas, young edamame, and a gentle, lingering umami.

We recommend this tea for all green tea lovers. It is a vibrant Japanese tea, a cup of spring at its purest, with centuries of tradition steeped into each sip.

Due to the short harvest period and the global demand for this tea, Shincha is limited in supply. Once this year’s batch is gone, it won’t return until the next harvest which is next spring.
