Elderberries are used to make a syrup that is sipped. Elderberry is recommended to be simmered for a minimum of 45 minutes prior to consumption. Elderberries are not recommended to be brewed and consumed like a regular tea.
Ingredients: organic black elderberries (Sambucus nigra L)
Steep Directions: In a saucepan bring to a boil 2 1/2 cups water, the entire packet of 150 grams of elderberry, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon dried cloves or 4 whole cloves, and 3-5 teaspoons of fresh ginger. Once the mixture comes to a rolling boil, cover the saucepan and reduce to simmer. Simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Let cool, mash the mixture to break it down with a potato masher or fork. Strain to remove all the berry and spice pulp. Strain with a tea infuser, fine mesh strainer, nut milk bag, or cheesecloth. Next add 3/4 cup of raw good quality honey. Stir the honey until completely dissolved. Sip 1-2 teaspoons per day. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Whatever you will not consume in 2 weeks, we recommend you put in the freezer in ice cube trays so that you can take out an ice cube as needed.
